More wet weather on tap but some 'relief' is on the way

WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said a cold front will march through central North Carolina on Thursday, when temperatures will hover in the 50s. He said it will be overcast and rainy.

"You'll need your rain gear for the morning commute," he said. "But there is relief on the way."

Maze the chance for rain sticks around each day through Sunday but clouds will diminish and Monday should bring warmer, sunnier conditions.

If there was a bright side for North Carolina residents, it was that states to the north had worse weather on Wednesday.

People in Washington, D.C., New England and the Midwest saw several inches of snow.

The storm prompted the cancellation of over 5,000 flights as it advanced through the middle of the country.

Temperatures on Thursday were originally expected to top out in the low 60s, but Maze said that the warm front that was supposed to create the mild temperatures will likely not arrive. High temperatures are now expected to top out in the upper 40s or low 50s.

Friday and Saturday will remain cold, with high temperatures in the 40s, and the chance for rain persists.

Sunday, while rainy, will be the warmest day of the week, with a high in the mid 70s.
