Rain possible Tuesday as system brings cooler temperatures for rest of the week

Don't get used to the warm temperatures from Monday just yet.

According to WRAL meteorologist Kat Campbell, a system currently in the Midwest causing severe weather in St. Louis, Mo. will make its way into central and Eastern North Carolina overnight and on Tuesday.

The system contains both a warm and a cold front, and our area is expected to stay on the stable side of the system, meaning that the chances of severe weather on Tuesday are low.

That means the WRAL viewing area will fall into the cold front side of the system, bringing cooler temperatures with a high of 59 degrees in the afternoon with the potential for a round of showers early in the day and about a 60 percent chance of rain Tuesday night.

Hurricane season is also right around the corner. Each of the past five years have seen a pre-season named storm.

While there is nothing brewing in the Tropics currently, it is always best to be prepared in the event that another pre-season named storm forms and moves toward the East coast.
