RALEIGH, N.C. — Rain was moving in to the Triangle on Friday, bringing a risk for severe storms.

"A few storms may become strong to severe. The main concerns will be gusty winds and lightning, which could impact any outdoor plans," said WRAL meteorologist Kat Campbell.

She noted that the evening rush hour would be prime time for an impact in the Triangle.

“That’s when we could see the downpours and some of the stronger thunderstorms roll through,” she said.

The day started mild, with temperatures in the 60s and some areas seeing spotty showers.

Temperatures warmed up to the mid-70s before the rain arrived.

7-Day Forecast

Rain will move out by 10 p.m., leaving the weekend dry.

“We get the rain out of the way today,” Campbell said.

A cold front is pushing in those rainy systems, and temperatures will drop overnight Friday and Saturday, with highs in the 50s.

Those highs will stick around next week, with lows in the 30s.
