RALEIGH, N.C. — Storms that are capable of producing damaging winds were rolling through the area Tuesday afternoon, according to WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner.

Heavy rain began falling in Raleigh, and points to the south, just after noon, and scattered showers are expected throughout the afternoon.

Gardner said, if the storm continues to hold together, it could impact areas such as Rocky Mount and Wilson, but areas to the north were seeing sunshine.

Nearly two inches of rain was reported in Chatham County as the storm blew through.

Lightning is also associated with these storms, Gardner said.

Highs will top out Tuesday afternoon mid to upper 80s.

Wednesday will be dry, but a bit warmer, as highs climb into the 90s.
