RALEIGH, N.C. — The infamous railroad bridge over Peace Street has eaten yet another 18-wheeler on this foggy Wednesday morning.

The truck reportedly crashed into the bridge a little before 8 a.m. Peace Street was blocked by the crash, as police and officials begin working on clean up.

The truck's metal roof has been peeled back as it scraped beneath the bridge, opening it like a can of sardines.

For now, drivers trying to get between Capital Boulevard and Glenwood Avenue should consider using Wade Avenue or Hillsborough Street as alternate routes.

This is far from the first time Raleighites have seen the railroad bridge trap an unsuspecting tractor trailer. It's almost taken on the status of a downtown Raleigh tradition.

Through the years: Peace Street railroad bridge vs. Tractor trailer

We've got a story as far back as July 2014.

It happened again in February of 2017.

Then again in November of 2017.

"Not again!" said the headline, when another crash occurred in December of 2018.

Then, in June of 2019 a truck driver abandoned his tractor trailer beneath the bridge.

Now, February of 2020 can be added to the list.

The regularity of this occurrence has prompted the Peace Street Bridge to create its own Twitter account, asking questions like: Does this truck make me look fat?

There are no injuries reported. This is just another in a long line of trucks eaten by the Peace Street railroad bridge -- one of Raleigh's strangest traditions.
