<b>BENSON, N.C.</b> — A race car driver injured his brother in an accident at a drag strip in Johnston County on Saturday night.

The brothers were preparing for a legal racing competition at the Dunn-Benson Drag Strip around 7:30 p.m.

Investigators said the vehicle was doing a &quot;burnout,&quot; which means the driver was getting the wheels hot for an upcoming race. The car spun out of control, and the driver struck his brother who was standing next to a guardrail.

The brother underwent surgery to his head at WakeMed, troopers said.

He suffered lacerations to his head and a shoulder injury, but was alert and talking to troopers at the hospital Saturday night.

Troopers said they decided not to file charges following an investigation.<br />

Authorities have not released the men's names, per the family's request.
