— A raccoon was to blame for causing a major power outage in Rocky Mount Monday night, officials said.

The animal got into the point of delivery system, causing it to short circuit, around 10:20 p.m. Power was restored about an hour later.

All 27,000 Rocky Mount Public Utilities customers were without power at the height of the outage, officials said.
