— Wayne County health officials warned residents in the Grantham area Tuesday to be on the lookout for unusual behavior in pets or wild animals after a rabid fox bit two people there.

The fox was caught on Birch Street on April 23.

Residents were advised to watch for the following behaviors:

  • Animals that normally come out at night venturing out in daylight hours
  • Staggering animals
  • Animals that have wetness or are drooling around the mouth
  • Animals that do not fear people, even in the presence of loud or frightening noises
  • Aggressive or sickly animals

Anyone who spots an animal exhibiting strange behavior is asked to call Wayne County Animal Control at 919-731-1439.
