HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. — A 9-week-old puppy who was taken Saturday from a Holly Springs pet adoption event was found Sunday after someone turned her in, animal rescue officials said.

Pawfect Match Rescue and Rehabilitation posted on its Facebook page that they were informed by Holly Springs police that the boxer-hound mix puppy named Pisa was returned to the police department, which turned the dog over to the rescue group.

"She seems fine and healthy!" the group posted on its Facebook page.

It was not immediately clear if the suspect who took the dog was in custody.

According to officials, the pup was taken from a Petco, located at 172 Grand Hills Place in Holly Springs, at the end of an adoption event.

A man, who is 6 feet tall, and wearing a gray and green hoodie, snatched the dog and fled from the scene, organizers said.

Bystanders yelled that the unidentified man took the animal before the suspect fled on foot from the scene.

The suspect was seen later near Arbor Creek subdivision between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Organizers of the pet adoption event said Pisa is microchipped but has not been fully vaccinated because of her age.
