HEMPSTEAD, NEW YORK — Buddy, a dog that was forced to drink from a beer keg, has been removed from the university fraternity house where he was living.

Video of the incident shows one man picking up Buddy while another puts the keg tap into the dog's mouth and pours. The video, which features people laughing and cheering in the background, went viral over the weekend.

On Wednesday, Buddy was in the custody of the Nassau SPCA.

"We had to do our due process and get a little more of a case," explained Matt Roper, a detective with the Nassau SPCA. "Later on that evening, we were able to seize the dog."

Roper said Buddy was in good condition when they tracked him down and that the dog's owner is a senior at Hofstra University and a member of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity.

The owner, Roper said, promised investigators he would immediately take the 8-month-old puppy to the vet for a checkup.

"He didn't take the dog to the vet," Roper said. "We decided at that point in time that we needed to take the dog and get immediate veterinary care."

Meghan Flaherty lives across the street from what investigators say is the AEP fraternity house.

"I think what they did was wrong," Flaherty said. "I think you should think in the future before you make decisions. I was appalled honestly. I'm an animal lover."

Ninety-four-year-old Walter Szpaczynsky, who lives right next door, said he was visibly upset by the video. "I cannot accept this," Szpaczynsky said. "They're college students. That's our future."

No charges had been filed Wednesday, but Roper says the SPCA has received almost 100 phone calls from people looking to adopt Buddy, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Roper, however, said Buddy is still evidence in the ongoing investigation and cannot be adopted until the case is closed.
