Pullen Park's annual egg hunt was popular before the park closed down for two years for a massive overhaul.
The event returns March 31 and city officials are planning for a big crowd with overflow parking and a free shuttle. Parking will be on the Dorothea Dix soccer field lots on Hunt Drive across Western Boulevard from Pullen Park. The shuttle will run from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Activities at
Pullen Park begin at 10 a.m. with crafts and the opening of the carousel, train and kiddie boats. The egg hunt begins promptly at 11 a.m. and will probably be finished about five minutes later (if I had to make a wild guess). This is a free event (the rides are still $1 each). Pre-registration is not required. The egg hunt and activities are for ages 10 and under.
The city's Richard Costello tells me that the city will be hiding about 4,000 eggs. They'll be filled with all kinds of treats, including ride tickets (love that idea!).
The hunt will be divided up into three age groups: 0 to 3; 4 to 6; and 7 to 10.
Pullen Place Cafe will have a special brunch menu that day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The menu includes a breakfast plate of eggs, potatoes, sausage or bacon for $8; an egg sandwich, ham biscuit, biscuit 'n gravy or cinnamon roll for $5; bagel and cream cheese, muffin, or biscuit and jam for $3. Apple juice, coffee, hot apple cider, hot chocolate, milk and water also will be for sale.
Pullen Place also will be collecting items for Inter-Faith Food Shuttle's Backpack Buddies program, which provides food for kids who don't have enough when they go home from school for the weekend.
