The Pullen Aquatic Center will be closed for most of the summer as the City of Raleigh works to upgrade the facility.

Crews will work through the summer and into the fall to add new roofing, replace skylights and do structural repairs, among other things, at the center. The renovations will close the pool from June 9 through Dec. 9.

"The Pullen Aquatic Center Renovation project will include new roofing, skylight replacement, building envelope and structural repair, replacement of natatorium lighting, diving board replacement, replacement of HVAC units, pool gutter system replacement and the addition of a natatorium dehumidification system," the city posted to the center's website.

The almost 40,000-square-foot venue hosts several large-scale swimming competitions each year. It was built in 1991.
