PTA president at Fayetteville school faces embezzlement charges
Cumberland County investigators arrested the president of a local PTA on Friday and charged her with stealing from the school group.
Posted — UpdatedBrandy Marie Jones, 30, of 1757 Arrow Ridge Way, was charged with three counts of embezzlement. She was released on a $7,500 unsecured bond.
Authorities said Jones, who heads the Brentwood Elementary School PTA, wrote three checks on the group's account to her fiancé. The checks, which totaled more than $3,000, were written on Dec, 5, Dec. 7 and March 31, authorities said.
The PTA money had been earmarked for a snow-cone machine and other items to be used for school functions, authorities said. An investigation began after bank officials told the PTA that its account was overdrawn by more than $300, authorities said.
