FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County investigators arrested the president of a local PTA on Friday and charged her with stealing from the school group.

Brandy Marie Jones, 30, of 1757 Arrow Ridge Way, was charged with three counts of embezzlement. She was released on a $7,500 unsecured bond.

Authorities said Jones, who heads the Brentwood Elementary School PTA, wrote three checks on the group's account to her fiancé. The checks, which totaled more than $3,000, were written on Dec, 5, Dec. 7 and March 31, authorities said.

The PTA money had been earmarked for a snow-cone machine and other items to be used for school functions, authorities said. An investigation began after bank officials told the PTA that its account was overdrawn by more than $300, authorities said.
