Proximity Brewing Co. makes history as Durham's first Black-owned brewery
Proximity Brewing Company is making history as the first Black-owned brewery in Durham.
Posted — UpdatedLocated in East Durham on a block with a growing number of Black-owned businesses, Mike Potter said he started Proximity Brewing for one simple reason.
"We just love beer," he said. "We love brewing. We gotta make money somewhere. Might as well pick something that you like."
Potter said it's always been a dream of his to open a brewery. That dream came true when he opened Proximity Brewing Company, which has it's grand opening on Dec. 15.
All of the IPAs and ales brewed at Proximity were created in collaboration with other local brands.
Mike even collaborated with Fayetteville's Dirtbag Ales to create the 2023 Blacktoberfest ale. Proximity Brewing was also a co-host for this year's annual Blacktoberfest – a monthlong celebration highlighting Black-led breweries, distilleries and businesses.
