GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Family members of murder victims in Goldsboro gathered Tuesday afternoon to protest local violence and unsolved homicide cases.

According to the Goldsboro police chief, 28 murder cases in the past 10 years have remained unsolved.

The march ended at the Goldsboro Police Station, where families hope that, by uniting their voices, they will be heard by the investigators inside.

Parents, children and others marched Tuesday afternoon, shouting "We want justice."

Every person said they are desperate for justice after losing a loved one to murder in Goldsboro.

"I just want justice for my kid's father," LaShonda Barrett said. "We are all in it together."

Eric Donte Covington left behind five young children. He was killed last year, just five days before Christmas.

His children, ages 6 and under, wore shirts with their father's picture on it.

Family members voiced frustration over the unsolved murder cases.

"In almost all of these situations, and these cases, the police has admitted to the families that they have suspects, and they pretty much know who did it, but they don't have enough evidence to convict," Tiffany Maddox said.

Demonstrators said that, while arrests won't bring their loved ones back, they would bring peace.

"You are a murderer if you know who did it and didn't say anything," one protester yelled.

According to data released by the department to WRAL News, Goldsboro police reported:
