Proposal would fill Nash schools' budget gap by reducing teacher supplements
Administrators in Nash County are trying to reduce a $2.4 million budget gap, and one idea on the table involves taking the money from teachers.

Shelton Jefferies, superintendent of Nash-Rocky Mount Schools, asked the finance committee on Tuesday to consider a proposal to reduce the remaining supplement for teachers between March and June by 35 percent.
Jefferies said no jobs would be lost.
“Mainly, this option will preserve employment for all staff. There will be no eliminated staff, those that are transferred, if approved, will receive no less compensation or benefits,” he said.
The finance committee agreed to send the proposal to the full board, which next meets April 1.
