RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina's "Super Tuesday" primary has passed, so here are some takeaways as the state moves forward:

Joe Biden's momentum in the Democratic presidential campaign continued with a big win over Bernie Sanders. Sanders had support in precincts near some college campuses across the state, but it wasn't nearly as widespread as predicted.

Lt. Gov. Dan Forest didn't lose a single precinct in the Republican primary for governor and outperformed Gov. Roy Cooper's results in the Democratic primary even though Forest faced a sitting legislator and Cooper faced a perennial candidate who's never won an election.

First-time candidate Mark Robinson topped the 30 percent threshold to avoid a runoff in the nine-person Republican race for lieutenant governor, while Rep. Yvonne Holley, D-Wake, and Sen. Terry Van Duyn, D-Buncombe, could face a runoff on the Democratic side.

Enough people pulled a Libertarian or Constitution Party ballot and picked "No Preference" in the presidential race that that option was the top vote-getter in both parties.
