President, first lady honor service members, military families during Fort Bragg visit
President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill Biden, will visit Fort Bragg on Monday to celebrate Thanksgiving with service members and military families, the White House said Tuesday.
Posted — UpdatedThe president and first lady arrived at Fort Bragg at 5:30 p.m. The dinner, referred to by the White House as "Friendsgiving," was held at 6 p.m.
Biden said that he and the First Lady will "be able to show the nation's gratitude for their service and sacrifice and welcome those coming home after 20 years in Afghanistan."
Fort Bragg played a significant role in the Afghanistan mission. The last American soldier to leave on Aug. 31 was the commander of the 82nd Airborne based at Fort Bragg.
This will be the president's first time at Fort Bragg since he took office.
During his visit, Biden thanked the service members and their families for their service.
"You are the most incredible group of women and men - warriors - that we've ever seen," Biden told military families.
