SELMA, N.C. — A downed power pole caused multiple crashes near downtown Selma on Friday morning.

The pole fell on West Anderson Street during a storm Thursday night.

Police officers arrived after 6 a.m. Friday to block off the road after WRAL News called law enforcement to report the crashes.

Before authorities arrived, a car had knocked down caution tape on one end of the road.

“Somebody is supposed to be here,” said one driver whose car was damaged before police arrived. “This is a road where people drive every day.”

Thursday’s storms also brought down tree limbs, and a Johnston County resident said he saw a trampoline airborne in the wind and heavy rain.
