Traffic backed up due to Raleigh gas leak
RALEIGH, N.C. — One lane in each direction on Tryon Road between Gorman Street and Lake Dam Road in Raleigh was reopened Wednesday afternoon after a natural gas leak from a damaged pipe temporarily closed the thoroughfare, police said.

Repair work was expected to affect the evening commute and could last through 10 p.m., so drivers were advised to avoid the area.

Authorities said the leak happened when a contractor hit the pipe with a piece of boring equipment. Repair crews stopped the leak about 4 p.m.
