DURHAM, N.C. — After three years of being closed, Saint James Seafood will once again close its doors.

Owner Matt Kelly said on Wednesday the restaurant's lease for its location at 806 W. Main St. in Durham had been terminated and the restaurant had to be out by Nov. 1. Kelly said the seafood restaurant's last day would be in "early October."

"I'm very thankful for [my staff's] commitment, hard work and perseverance through the good times and the bad times," Kelly said.

Saint James originally opened in Brightleaf Square in October 2017. It closed on April 10, 2019 after a deadly explosion a few hundred feet away in front of Kaffeinate coffee shop. After being closed for 10 months, Saint James reopened in January 2020, only to close in March that year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The restaurant opened in July 2020 for takeout only and dubbed itself "Jimmy's Dockside." That service ended in December 2020.

The restaurant had reopened it's dining room in February of this year.

"I am in complete awe and have deep gratitude to the Durham community for supporting our creative process," said Kelly.

Kelly said over the next two months, staff would be celebrating the restaurant's four-year tenure. He added that if anyone knew of a new location, to contact him.
