A man was taken into custody after authorities said a bullet from a gun he fired went through a child’s bedroom Thursday evening.

Zebulon police said officers responded to a report of a bullet shot through a child’s bedroom in the 300 block of Horton Street and found the exit hole from the bullet in a neighboring home.

When police approached the home where the gun was fired from, authorities said a man inside shut all the blinds and refused to come outside.

Police surrounded the house, but the standoff ended peacefully when the man, and another woman inside, came out willingly.

Police said the man, who has not been identified, was charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling.

The man had been “messing around with a handgun” when it accidentally discharged, Zebulon Police Chief Tim Hayworth said.

No injuries were reported.
