Police: Youngsville man stole $46,000 from grandma

A Youngsville man stole more than $46,000 from his grandmother to finance his lifestyle, according to an arrest warrant.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A Youngsville man stole more than $46,000 from his grandmother to finance his lifestyle, according to an arrest warrant.

Michael Hollen Surles, 32, of 20 Golden Poppy Lane, was arrested Friday on charges of obtaining property by false pretense and exploitation of a disabled or elderly person's trust. He was being held in the Wake County jail on Tuesday under $35,000 bond.

Surles took control of his grandmother's financial accounts and used her money to pay his bills between October 2017 and June, the arrest warrant states. His hotel stays, restaurant bills, cellphone service, electronics and other items totaled $46,060, according to the warrant.
