ROBBINS, N.C. — An officer was struck by a car on Tuesday evening after approaching the driver during a traffic stop.

Officials said a Robbins police officer was conducting a traffic stop around 5 p.m. in a Domino's Pizza parking lot located near 3045 N.C. Highway 24/27.

Police say the driver, April Marie Shaw, didn't comply with the police officer’s commands and fled the scene. According to police, Shaw intentionally struck the officer with her vehicle. The officer was transported to Moore Regional Hospital, where he was treated with minor injuries.

Around 7:30 p.m. police arrested Shaw and charged her with driving while impaired, driving while license revoked, 2 counts of resisting a public officer, misdemeanor assault on a government official, felony assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, felony assault with physical injury of a law enforcement officer and felony leaving the scene of an accident with injury.

Shaw is currently being held in the Moore County Detention Center on a $257,000.00 secured bond.

“I am extremely proud of all of our officers and everything they do to serve and protect the citizens of Robbins. This is an example of the dangers that law enforcement officers face on a daily basis. We wish our officer a quick and full recovery,” said Chief Rob Tew.
