Woman in critical condition after being found on Capital Boulevard

Part of southbound Capital Boulevard is closed Wednesday after police say a woman fell from a car onto the roadway.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Police were searching Wednesday for the man who apparently shoved a woman from a moving vehicle on Capital Boulevard during the predawn hours, prompting an investigation that stretched into the morning commute and snarled traffic for motorists.

Yenni Francisco Cruz, 27, was found lying on Capital Boulevard near Wake Forest Road and Wade Avenue around 2:30 a.m. She was rushed for medical treatment to WakeMed, where she was listed in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.

Police: Woman found on Capital Boulevard after assault, driver ran away

According to police, the woman fell onto the roadway after an aggravated assault.

Officials are searching for the driver, who fled the scene on foot, abandoning the car. Officials did not confirm if the driver pushed the woman out of the car.

The entry ramp from Wade Avenue onto southbound Capital Boulevard was closed until 8 a.m. Drivers can take Glenwood Avenue to avoid delays.

No additional information was immediately available. An investigation is underway.
