Police: Two shot on I-85 ramp were targeted
Two people were shot in a car on Interstate 85 in Durham.
Posted — UpdatedTyshawn Chavis, 24, and Donovan Bright, 26, both of Durham, were found inside the vehicle Friday afternoon near the south entrance ramp from Duke Street to Interstate 85.
Sky5 showed car tracks coming off I-85 southbound before stopping in a median.
Over a dozen police officers were seen at the shooting.
"I looked over and saw a car. Something didn't looking right ... the back windows looked like it'd been shot out and it had a couple of bullets. Something is not right," described a passerby who asked not to be identified by WRAL News.
Mourners gathered for a word of prayer feet away from where their loved ones' bodies were found.
"[I'm] just shocked. I'm tired of all this killing here in Durham," said Pastor Keshon Blue, who said one of the men killed in the shooting was his nephew.
"No one wants to lose a loved one," he added. "I don't care the nature or life the person is living. Gun violence is just heartbreak, you know, to lose someone to a murder."
Friends and family were seen holding each other up on the scene as officers attempted to collect possible evidence.
"It it ridiculous. These guys are probably around my age. They are late 20s [or] early 30s. It's stupid," said the passerby.
While suspect information wasn't immediately known, family and friends said they're focused on what they could do -- and that was pray.
"It's an ongoing roller coaster. It's just a sad situation and it is a praying time," said Blue.
Police said they planned to check cameras on I-85, but were concerned those cameras may not have been recording.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Durham Police Department.
