Police: Tarboro shooting a 'targeted and personal attack'

A 50-year-old man was shot multiple times Thursday night outside a Subway restaurant located at 1108 Western Blvd. in Tarboro, according to police.

TARBORO, N.C. — A 50-year-old man was shot multiple times Thursday night outside a Subway restaurant located at 1108 Western Blvd. in Tarboro, according to police.

Police said that, shortly after 9 p.m., the 911 emergency center received a call about the victim. Responding officers quickly located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect's, police said. He began to flee by car, but was prevented from escaping the lot.

Uday Kumar Chittoor

Uday Kumar Chittoor, 51, of Whittsett, was charged with attempted first-degree murder. He was being held in the Edgecombe County jail under $250,000 bond.

The victim was taken to Vidant Edgecombe Hospital for treatment.

Police called the shooting "a targeted and personal attack," noting that Chittoor and the victim, also from Whittsett, know each other.

A gun was recovered during the investigation, said police.
