DURHAM, N.C. — Police are searching for suspects after a person was shot Tuesday night in Durham.

Authorities said three men armed with handguns knocked on the door of a home in the 1500 block of S. Alston Avenue at about 8:15 p.m.

The suspects fought with a resident who opened the door and shots were fired, police said.

Following the altercation, several people ran from the home, including one who fell out a window, and one person went to the nearby North Carolina Central University campus to call 911.

Police said the victim was taken to Duke Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening, injuries.

No suspects were in custody Tuesday night and police did not say what may have prompted the shooting.

Anybody with information is asked to call Durham police at 919-683-1200.
