Police seek gunman in Clayton shooting

Police were searching Monday for a man in connection with a weekend shooting that wounded one man.

CLAYTON, N.C. — Police were searching Monday for a man in connection with a weekend shooting that wounded one man.

Arrest warrants have been issued charging Frankie Devone Clark, 48, of 705 Lakeview Drive, with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of cocaine.

The shooting took place at 705 Lakeview Drive in the Clayton Estates Mobile Home Park, off N.C. Highway 42, at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Dwight Thomas Ray, 37, of 221 Ellington St., was wounded in the incident. He was taken to WakeMed in Raleigh and was listed in stable condition Sunday evening.

The shooting is believed to have involved a handgun and to have taken place in the front yard of Clark’s residence, but a motive is still under investigation, police said.

Clark is described as a black man, about 5 feet, 5 inches tall and 135 pounds. Police said he is considered armed and dangerous.
