HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — The Hillsborough Police Department has located the owner of two dogs that appeared to have been abandoned Sunday night.

Officers posted photos of the dogs on Facebook, hoping to learn why they were left in frigid temperatures in Gold Park, a 24-acre park located at 415 Dimmocks Mill Road.

According to a Facebook post, officers found the two dogs locked inside the fenced-in dog park area.

"Neither dog had a collar, but both appeared to be friendly and well cared for," the post read. "It appears that they were abandoned but we have no idea why."

Police on Monday afternoon said the owner was located, but no further information would be released because of confidentiality issues. Authorities did not say if the owner would face charges.
