CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Police are looking for suspects who robbed several people around Chapel Hill Friday night.

Police say a young man and woman robbed several women at gunpoint just before 9 p.m. near Rosemary and Mitchell streets. About 10 minutes later, a group of men were robbed on Roberson Street. There was a third robbery on Sunset Drive just six minutes later.

Police say they’ve identified two suspects who approached groups of UNC students and, in at least once incident, flashed a firearm, then robbed the students before taking off on foot.

Maria Menjuenz owns a beauty shop along Rosemary Street. In her eight years here, she says she’s felt safe, but the reported robberies concern her.

"It is really scary now," she said.

Carrboro resident Abi Raja has lived in Orange County for 20 years and says the news of several early-evening armed robberies doesn’t shock her.

"People are desperate. It's hard times for everyone," Raja said. "So I'm not necessarily surprised that someone decided that was the right answer for them in the moment."

Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,000 reward for anyone who comes forward with information that could lead to an arrest.
