Police: Rocky Mount man, 75, killed by pit bull

Rocky Mount police are investigating after a man appears to have been killed by a dog over the weekend.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount police have identified a man who was apparently killed by a pit bull at the victim's home over the weekend.

Gurney Walker, 75, was found dead on Saturday inside his residence at 408 Buena Vista Ave. around 2:35 a.m. Police were called to the home for a suspicious event although they did not elaborate on who called for help.

Police said the man had received injuries from the dog, who was inside the house when officers arrived.

The man’s body has been sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine cause of death. Investigators did not comment on what will happen to the pit bull.
