RALEIGH, N.C. — A man found shot to death in north Raleigh late Saturday might have been wounded in a convenience store robbery that night, police said Monday.

The body of Derrick Malik Wiley, 21, was found in the 4200 block of Waterbury Road, off New Hope Church Road just west of Capital Boulevard.

Investigators said Wiley was a suspect in a robbery of a Mini Mart in the 5500 block of Old Wake Forest Road. During that incident, a store employee exchanged gunfire with the robber.

Wiley was found with a gunshot wound to his leg, police said.

No charges have been filed, but police said they would consult with the Wake County District Attorney’s Office before making a final decision in the case.
