GASTONIA, N.C. — The Gastonia Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting.

According to police, an officer responded to a home on Mountain Avenue early Monday morning before 12:15 a.m., where an overdose had been reported.

Police said a woman inside had a gun, and the officer shot her. No additional details about the incident were provided.

The woman was transported to CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia then Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for treatment. There was no update on her condition.

Per standard procedure, the officer has been placed on administrative leave with pay while an investigation is conducted.
