Lumberton, N.C. — Lumberton police picked up a naked man along N.C. Highway 72 and later linked him to some recent break-ins.
Police chased Jonathan Michael Allen, 31, of Country Club Drive, Tuesday when he was spotted driving a vehicle police believed was stolen.
During the chase, Allen abandoned the vehicle and eluded police. A search then began that resulted in his capture on N.C. 72 Thursday morning. According to police, he was wearning no clothes at the time of his arrest.
After his arrest, Allen was checked out at an area hospital, then charged with nine counts each of breaking and entering and larceny, five counts of breaking into vehicles, two counts each of felony larceny and stealing vehicles and one count of first-degree burglary, Lt. Johnny Barnes said.
He is a suspect in the thefts of two trucks and some electronics over the past month.
Police said they believe Allen was using the profits from his stolen goods to support a drug habit.
