Police: Motorcyclist was going 145 mph before fatal crash in Fayetteville

Fayetteville police said speeding caused a fatal crash in Fayetteville on Thursday morning.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police said a speeding motorcyclist, who was refusing to stop for officers, died after crashing with a car.

Police said they attempted to stop the motorcyclist driving about 145 mph in a 45 mph zone on Cliffdale Road around 10:30 a.m. The motorcyclist increased speed, police said, and officers ended the chase for safety reasons.

The motorcyclist then crashed into a car pulling out of a neighborhood from Dandridge Drive onto North Reilly Road around 11 a.m. The motorcyclist was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene.

Police are waiting to notify family before releasing the identity of the motorcyclist.

The driver of the car was not injured in the crash.

Police said additional information will be released when it becomes available.
