HENDERSON, N.C. — Three men rushed a house, shooting and killing at least one and injuring another early Friday, Henderson police said.

Three men knocked on the door of a home at 687 Adams St., which was occupied by four men, around 2 a.m. A man identified police only as "Little G" opened the door, and the gunmen rushed to the back yard, where two other men were.

At least one of the men who rushed the house shot, hitting both Montreal Alston and Robert Earl Smith.

Alston died at the scene, police said.

Smith was taken to Mariah Parham Hospital in Henderson and then transferred to Duke University Hospital in Durham. An update on his condition was not available.

"Little G" and Jay Allen Gibson, who was also in the front room, were uninjured, police said.

Henderson police had not made any arrests as of Friday.
