SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Smithfield police charged a Marine Saturday with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Officers spotted Anthony Robert Ferguson, 19, with two girls in the parking lot of a local business around 3 a.m. on May 9, a spokesman said.

Lt. Keith Powell said Ferguson, 19, who is stationed at Camp Lejeune, was sitting in a vehicle with the sisters, ages 12 and 10. Ferguson allegedly met the older girl in an Internet chat room and arranged the meeting.

Police do not suspect Ferguson of any sexual contact with the girls.
