Police: Man struck Durham police car, fled scene

Authorities said that a man driving a stolen car struck a police car occupied by an officer near Eastwood Drive at about 5:30 p.m.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police are searching for a man who struck a Durham Police Department vehicle and fled the scene Thursday afternoon.

Authorities said that a man driving a stolen car struck a police car occupied by an officer near Eastwood Drive at about 5:30 p.m.

The driver abandoned the stolen car at the intersection of University Drive and Vickers Avenue and fled the scene on foot. He was described as a black man with a slim build who was about 5 feet 9 inches tall. He was wearing dark colored clothing and appeared to be in his late 20s, authorities said.

The Durham police officer was not injured. A passenger in the stolen vehicle, who was pregnant, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
