GOLDSBORO, N.C. — After a shooting injury landed Nonya Zion Holmes, 21, from Wayne UNC Health Care on June 27, authorities arrested him on charges that date back almost three years.

Holmes first attracted law enforcement attention on Sept. 18, 2018, when an officer parked near the intersection of Berkley Boulevard and Elm Street saw a man get shot in the back of the head as he was jumping out of a car stopped at the intersection.

He was charged with attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Police said Holmes and Geno Tyrone Pridgen Jr. forced Corey Antonia Gibbs Jr., 24, into his car and to get cash from his bank at the ATM. As Gibbs tried to escape them, he was shot.

Pridgen was arrested on June 7, 2021, after turning himself in to the Goldsboro Police Department.

Holmes was identified and arrested that same night after he was released from Wayne UNC Health Care. He was taken to Wayne County Criminal Magistrate and served his outstanding warrants.

Holmes remained at Wayne County Jail under $738,500 bond.
