Police: Man shot at Sanford party

A Sanford man was shot as a party in a downtown building was ending early Saturday, police said Tuesday.

SANFORD, N.C. — A Sanford man was shot as a party in a downtown building was ending early Saturday, police said Tuesday.

Gregory Wayne Baker was among numerous people who attended a party in the back of the Here It Is thrift shop, in the 100 block of South Steele Street, police said. Baker was shot outside the building as the party was ending around 5:30 a.m.

Someone drove him to Central Carolina Hospital within a few minutes, and he was transported to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Baker was shot twice in the chest but is expected to recover, police said.

Police said that several downtown businesses were also damaged by gunfire.

No arrests have been made amid the ongoing investigation.
