WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Three men assaulted a 25-year-old man in the back of a Target in North Carolina, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.
The assault happened Tuesday afternoon at around 8:30 p.m. on Hanes Mall Boulevard, police told WXII.

The 25-year-old man went to a local hospital with injuries to his hand and face after he told police he was assaulted by three men. He told police he fired his gun to stop the men from assaulting him.

The gunfire did not stop the men from assaulting him, according to police, and the men took his gun and eventually ran off.

Police said evidence suggests that this was "not a random act of violence."

The men drove off in a vehicle possibly with Ohio license plates, police said.
