RALEIGH, N.C. — Police said Tuesday that they have made an arrest in a recent shooting inside Crabtree Valley Mall.

Brandon Shamaar Bumpass, 21, was charged with felony inciting to riot, felony conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and simple affray.

The shooting occurred Dec. 17 shortly before 9 p.m. on the mall's lower level outside the LEGO store, police said. Two people who were among a large group of people began arguing on an escalator, and the fight turned into a physical altercation when they got to the lower level near the Christmas tree.

One of the two then pulled out a gun and fired, and the second person returned fire, police said. Seven projectiles were found at the scene.

No bystanders were injured during the shooting, police said, but investigators found a trail of blood at the scene, leading them to believe that one of the shooters was hit.

"I turned around and ran out the door," described Jeffrey Nesbit, who was at the mall looking for last-minute Christmas gifts when the shooting occured.

"I still have not returned to Crabtree yet. I still feel some anxiety about that," he added.

The Raleigh Police Department released new surveillance photos Monday possibly showing the men who fired gunshots inside Crabtree Valley Mall.

Police are still searching for two other men in the shooting, and they have released images from mall security cameras in an effort to get the public's assistance.

"It was startling to say the least," said Nesbitt. "Gunfire was not anything on my mind."

Anyone who recognizes the men in the photos is asked to call Raleigh Crime Stoppers at 919-834-4357.
