GREENVILLE, N.C. — A member of an East Carolina University fraternity has been charged with posting a racist invitation to a rush party at a rival fraternity on social media.

James Daniel Edwards IV, 19, was charged last Friday with cyberstalking.

The following item was posted on the social app Yik Yak in late August, according to Greenville police: “Theta Chi rush party. PNMs (potential new members) and girls only. No blacks. Girls 5$ @door. Call or text.” The post included a fraternity member’s name and number for an invitation.

Police determined that no one affiliated with the Theta Chi fraternity was involved with the post, and they were able to link the post to Edwards.

Edwards is listed as the director of recruitment for the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity at ECU.

NBC affiliate WITN contacted Edwards on Monday, but he declined to comment until he has a lawyer.
