— Garner police are investigating back-to-back bank robberies that occurred Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities said the man attempted to rob the Coastal Credit Union at 1060 Timber Drive East at about 4:45 p.m., but no money was taken.

A man jumped the counter at the State Employees' Credit Union at 1000 Vandora Springs Road at 4:57 p.m. and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Authorities said they believe the same man was responsible for both robberies and that person may be driving a white compact car.

The man is described as being white, 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing about 155 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans, a black hat and sunglasses.

No injuries were reported during either incident and no weapon was used, police said.
