SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Smithfield police have made no arrests in a shooting that took place Friday night.

Police said Monday that three men were shot, and that all three were expected to recover.

The incident took place at 407 Bridge Street in Smithfield, home of Lamell McDaniel, 18. McDaniel was shot three times, once in each leg and in the chest. He was taken to a hospital Friday night, but released Saturday, police said.

Corey Raynell Hunter, 19, of Twin Creek Drive in Smithfield, was treated and released for a gunshot wound to the hand.

Paul Ballard, 22, was in stable condition Monday with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police were questioning the other people who were present at what a spokesman called a “social gathering” when the shots were fired.

A preliminary investigation revealed multiple bullet holes in the exterior of the house. Police were quick to say the shooting was not “a drive-by situation.”
