Police Investigate Fatal Stabbing

— Police on Monday were investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred Saturday night near West Piedmont Avenue and Scout Drive.

Officers found William Ernest Davis, 39, lying in the intersection shortly after 8:30 p.m. Saturday. He had been stabbed in the chest. He was taken to Duke University Hospital, where he died.

Investigators said they believe Davis was stabbed during an argument, and they were following several leads.

No charges had been filed by Monday morning.
