WENDELL, N.C. — A man was shot early Thursday morning by intruders who forced their way into the victim's Wendell home, police said.

Police were called around 3:30 a.m. to a home on Luster Leaf Place after a shooting was reported. When officers arrived, they found a 23-year-old man had been shot inside the house.

Authorities said the suspects forced their way into the home and confronted the victim. After shooting him, the suspect ran out the front door.

Another adult and two children were also in the home at the time of the shooting but were not injured.

The victim was taken to WakeMed to be treated for his injuries.
