Police locate intruder who was shot before fleeing Roanoke Rapids home

Roanoke Rapids, N.C. — Police have located the suspect accused of breaking into a home in Roanoke Rapids early Thursday morning.
Wade Carter, 53, of Roanoke Rapids, was shot during the break-in.
Authorities found him at a local hospital.
Carter was taken into custody and will be served a warrant for first degree burglary when he is cleared from the hospital.
According to officials, police officers responded to a home along the 500 block of Raleigh Street in Roanoke Rapids around 3:30 a.m.
A person inside the home told police they shot an intruder three times before the suspect ran out the back door. The resident said the woke up after hearing a noise, retrieved a firearm and then confronted the suspect inside the residence.
“The homeowner was defending their home and protecting their life during this invasion into privacy of their home," Chief Chuck Hasty said in a release.
