CARY, N.C. — The tragedy in Wisconsin is raising concerns about safety for upcoming holiday parades here in the Triangle.

Local police paid attention.

Lieutenant John Reeves with Cary Police says his department is working on safety plans. Taking a closer look at staffing and protocols.

"The same fear a citizen has like Wisconsin happening, police officers, especially the ones in charge and attending the event, they're thinking twice as hard," said Reeves.

In Apex, The Deputy Police Chief says his team is constantly discussing safety for upcoming events.

Police there use what's called an "incident action plan" a guide for responding to possible emergencies. It's what Deputy Chief Mitch McKinney says will be in place December 4th, the day of the Apex Christmas Parade.

"We reviewed the plan today for that. We're confident we've done everything we can to ensure as much public safety as we possible," said McKinney.

He also notes, this doesn't stop at the planning phase, and that law enforcement re-evaluates during these events to maximize safety.
